Is the NSW Payroll Tax Department Giving You Money Back?

Updated November 4th 2015

The New South Wales Office of State Revenue is currently providing incentives to encourage business to create new jobs in NSW.

The incentives are provided in 2 forms. The first is an incentive to small business via the Small Business Grant which commenced on 1 July 2015. In order to be eligible for this grant, businesses must have an active ABN and not have a payroll tax liability in the last 12 months. A business will receive payment of $2,000 for every new position created since 1 July 2015 as long as the job is maintained for a period of 12 months.

The second incentive is the Jobs Action Plan. This incentive commenced on 1 July 2011 and is available for businesses who are required to pay payroll tax. Under this plan, businesses are required to create and maintain a new position for 2 years in order to receive a payroll tax rebate totalling $5,000.

The cut off date for the Jobs Action Plan is currently 30 June 2019 and 1 July 2019 for the Small Business Grant.

Registration periods apply upon commencement of employment.
