Families who are eligible to receive Family Tax Benefit Part A are reminded that they are also able to take advantage of the ‘education tax refund’ for back-to-school expenses incurred. Parents are able to claim 50% of eligible school expenses up to a maximum refund of $794 for high school and $397 for primary school children. Expenses which may be claimed include:
- Computers, laptops and other computer related hardware
- Educational software including word processing software
- Costs of establishing and maintaining an internet connection
- Textbooks and other paper based learning material
- Prescribed tools of trade
